This collection is fruit of a collaboration between two pioneers in the therapeutic and educational potential of poetry and medicine. Alan Bleakley (UK) and Shane Neilson (Canada) reflect on suffering and recovery, their poetry mediated by the drama of their respective landscapes and a shared love of language.
Across sixty works, the reader is invited to enter into the intimacy of a creative conversation. Whilst the poetry is often confessional and raw, its power lies in the authors’ shared ability to transcend self and speak universally, through lines rich in the little details of life, love, and the world about us.
“The Cost of Living is collaborative poetry taken to the full force of its potential.” –
Jim Johnstone, poet and author of The King of Terrors
