Artel poet Alan Bleakley has won a Haiku prize in the annual Fish Publishing (Cork, Eire) International Writing Contest with a new work titled Chough.
Fish Publishing runs four annual International Writing Contests and Alan’s winning poem is for the Haiku Prize judged by Forward Prize nominee Mary-Jane Holmes. His poem will be featured in Fish Anthology 2026 which will be launched at this year’s West Cork Literary Festival.
Alan’s haiku is a beautiful vignette of landscape and nature in his native Cornwall, its theme and vivid language familiar to anyone who has enjoyed his two collections of poetry with The Artel Press – The Bio-illogical and (with Shane Neilson) The Cost of Living.
Congratulations to Alan and all the other writers who have been recognised.
